4-H Camp 2020

4-H Camp 2020
Super Heroes in Training

“With great power comes great responsibility”

–Spiderman

No doubt about it, 4-H Camp will look differently in 2020. However, counselors and adults are grateful to work in partnership with Public Health Officials and Haven on the Rock staff to continue our usual fun in a safe way.

Here are some of those changes:

No bus transportation at this time

  • We will not transport campers to Haven on the Rock
  • We will not spend an afternoon at the lake

So… please plan on bringing your campers to Haven on the Rock at 2pm on June 28. Please send appropriate water apparel and squirt-guns as water games will be available.

Restrictions to indoor gatherings

  • We will be unable to have a family carry-in supper together at the conclusion of camp.

So… please plan on picking up your campers at Haven on the Rock at 5pm on June 30. Enjoy a family meal on your own.

Social Distancing

Usuallyrubbing elbows makes good medicine (Campfire Law) – this year, we’ll need to make sure we have adequate space for each other:

  • Please bring your own camp chair for campfires
  • Leave a bed in between each other in cabins

Face Masks are not required at this time but are welcome.

What Hasn’t Changed

Superheroes in Training (8-12 years old) are supervised and led by teen 4-H Counselors and Counselors-In-Training (CITs.) Adults are on site at all times.

Campers sleep in separate cabins with 2-3 Counselors and CITs. Boys live and stay in boys cabins while girls live and stay in girls cabins. Each sex has separate showers and restrooms.

In addition to meals, free snacks are available as well as the “Super” Snack Shack which is open twice daily for campers to enjoy one beverage and one candy per visit.

Research shows that participation in 4-H Camp helps build SUPER POWERS like leadership, creativity, responsibility, self-esteem, independence, friendship skills, teamwork, social comfort, values, decision making and a willingness to try new things.

Face Mask Sewing Pattern

Right now our Extension Office has kits available for 4-H members to sew face masks that will be donated to our local hospital.  These kits include simple instructions, fabric and elastic.

Kits are located inside the red barn mailbox to the right of the front door.

Please return your masks to the Extension Office so we can get these dropped off to those who need them! Take a photo with them first and share with us: mbrittin@uwyo.edu or on our Facebook page (Goshen County 4-H) or our Instagram page (Goshen County 4-H.)

For more detailed instructions, here’s the pattern we’ve used (not an endorsement):

Dear Friends,

I am writing to introduce myself as the Goshen Fair Youth Show Coordinator and to announce the 2020 Goshen County Fair. Moving into the new year, we are also celebrating 100 years of our county fair and what better way to celebrate a new decade than with a new century of youth and their work in the agriculture industry!

Goshen County Fair will take place August 1-8, 2020. I’d like to invite you to join us as we celebrate 100 years of this special community event. Your financial contribution could help fund champion buckles ($110) and the following show awards:

  • Rabbit
  • Poultry
  • Dairy, Breeding and Market Goat
  • Horse
  • 4-H Static Exhibit Awards

For $100, you could also join the “Centennial Club” of donors. New in 2020, these donors will receive special listing in the Fair Book, advertising on the digital message center and additional special recognition.

Thank you again for your continued support of the youth in our community.

Please feel free to contact me at: amy.schmick@gmail.com or by phone (307) 575-7804.

Sincerely,

Amy Schmick
