Q. What is the highlight of your career?
A. The highlight of my career is continually learning about agriculture. I love meeting people across the state and region who are involved with agriculture – from raising livestock and farming to lobbying for support in the legislature – and listening to their stories.
Q. What are challenges you encounter in your career?
A. My background is actually not in journalism or communication. Because of this, it took me a while to get into the swing of every day activities at the Roundup, but with everything, determination and practice can avail. Another challenge is, agriculture is a HUGE industry. There are so many facets of agriculture to learn about, and keep up with!
Q. How did you get to this career?
A. A dear friend and mentor, Saige Zespy, was the managing editor for the Wyoming Livestock Roundup for a long time. When she had the job, I was always intrigued by how knowledgable in agriculture she was and how often she got to travel. My degree is in rangeland ecology and watershed management, so I knew I would have to change my writing style a little bit, but I applied anyways! It is always helpful to reach out to people you know and get more information on the job or feedback on application materials.
Q. Are there scholarship or internship opportunities available with your career? If so, where can more information about those be found?
A. The University of Wyoming is a great resource for scholarship and internship opportunities! Within the College of Ag, there are many scholarships dedicated to certain degrees, including ag communications.
