Q. What is the highlight of your career?
A. The highlight of my career is working with patients, outstanding doctors, nurses, laboratory staff and other medical providers. I also love how each day is unique and allows you to keep growing and learning.
Q. What are challenges you encounter in your career?
A. One of the unique challenges of my job is that healthcare is 24/7, so sometimes work hours are challenging including night calls and potentially working holidays.
Q. How did you get to this career?
A. I started college at the University of Wyoming, looking to become a crop genetic engineer. As I went through college, I realized I wanted to most likely live in Wyoming or Montana, so I needed a career that allowed me to be employed in these states. I had the right coursework that allowed me to apply to Pharmacy school and also stay at the University of Wyoming.
Q. What is something unique about your career most people might not know or understand about what you do?
A. Pharmacists are always working to collaborate with providers often being the ones to recommend the most appropriate medications including class, strength and dose after considering special idiosyncrasies of the patient.
Q. Are there scholarship or internship opportunities available with your career? If so, where can more information about those be found?
A. One choosing to go to Pharmacy school will have opportunities to apply for many scholarships for healthcare careers or college based scholarships.
I also recommend checking with local pharmacies for the opportunity to work as a pharmacy technician or clerk. This would require commitment to studying for and passing a licensing exam.
